OVERVIEW

Scofield is the smallest town in Utah which provides a quiet hometown life for its full-time residents. They enjoy moderate summer temperatures, quiet winters, and an unhurried lifestyle.

Visitors to the area will enjoy the town’s history, varied outdoor opportunities, and Scofield Reservoir. The ease of access to neighboring communities, including the Wasatch Front, makes Scofield a popular destination for a myriad of recreational activities, historical research, and attendance at the Annual Pleasant Valley Days Celebration.

A tour of Scofield provides a step back into a bygone era of the first farmers and ranchers who struggled through the often harsh environment to begin settling the area. It is also a glimpse into the past of the growth of the community with the opening of the Winter Quarters Mine in 1875 and the building of a railroad in 1879 that helped support over 2,000 people in the valley. The contributions of a melting pot of people from all over the world can be seen in the aging structures throughout town. The horrific explosion that occurred in the mine on May 1, 1900, killing 200 miners, is a solemn event to contemplate as evidenced through the rows of wooden headstones in the cemetery, a granite monument honoring the miners in the park, and a sobering photo exhibit of the disaster that is a key element of Scofield history and housed in the historic school on the west side of town. It is a testament of fortitude to the families who stayed in the valley after the tragedy and continued to help Scofield thrive.

Scofield Reservoir is a hot spot for fishing, boating, and kayaking and a great way to spend a summer day. The annual 4th of July Pleasant Valley Days celebration grows and improves every year and for many is a not-to-be-missed event. There are ATV and hiking trails to explore as well as scenic camping options that offer a chance to get away from the bustle of the city. Hunters appreciate the variety of wildlife and the area is premier place for bringing home a trophy animal. Winter brings new opportunities for fun with ice fishing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing.

Scofield is a small town offering a wide variety of year-round opportunities for recreation and relaxation.
